A renowned soprano in Mozart's day, she is best known for a piercing (above high C) note given by her in performance at the Ducal opera of Parma before Mozart Sr., who later referred to her performance with respect, and to herself as "the Bastardella". Aldous Huxley made a passing note of her noteworthy note in his noteworthy novel, Brave New World.
