From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lucien Revolucien, also known as Lucien M'B and Papalu, is a pioneer of French hip-hop. Lucien was raised in the southern suburbs of Paris, perhaps in Creil, where he was a member of the "Requins Vicieux" street gang. After a short stay in jail, Lucien left France and moved to New York.
Lucien Revolucien is featured on Afrika Bambaataa's 1989 release "Hip-Hop Against Apartheid"/"L'Unité Africaine" as part of the French hip-hop group Assassin. Lucien also MC'd historic late-night live hip-hop sessions with DJ DeeNasty on RadioNova, a Paris radio station, from 1988(*) to 1993(*).
Close to the Native Tongues Posse (A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, Queen Latifah, Black Sheep) and to The Beatnuts.
A Tribe Called Quest included a song dedicated to Lucien ("Luck of Lucien") on their first LP, "People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm."
