Luís de Freitas Branco

Luís de Freitas Branco (Lisbon, 12 October 1890 — Lisbon, 27 November 1955) was a Portuguese composer and academic. As a child he studied piano and violin. In 1910 he moved to Berlin to study composition. He was professor of composition at the Lisbon conservatory from 1916, and was the teacher of, among others, Joly Braga Santos. He was the brother of the Portuguese conductor Pedro de Freitas Branco.
