Lt. Max Eckhardt

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lt. Max Eckhardt was a character (played by William Hootkins), that appeared in the movie, Batman. He was a crooked lieutenant in the Gotham City Police Department who was hired by mob boss Carl Grissom to kill Jack Napier during a set-up at Axis Chemicals. Eckhardt was killed when Napier shot him in the chest during the confrontation ironically.

It has been speculated, but not confirmed, that Eckhardt was inspired by Harvey Bullock, a controversial member of the Gotham City Police Department in the Batman comic book titles. Detective Flass, a similarly corrupt and overweight cop from Batman Begins, might also be an homage to Eckhardt, although his name comes from a corrupt, but not unfit, cop in Batman: Year One.
