LSWR Class T1
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The London and South Western Railway T1 Class was a class of 0-4-4 steam tank locomotives designed for suburban passenger work, designed by Adams and introduced 1888.
The class were (in typical LSWR fashion) haphazardly numbered, remaining largly intact until the 1930's, they were scheduled to be withdrawn by the 1940, however due the the Second World War a few remained in trafic (around eight examples) until the early British Railways years, the final one (30004) being scrapped around 1950.
No complete T1's were saved for preservation, however a boiler from a withdrawn locomotive was found in a factory in Essex and was subsiquently purchased for use on a 'new' T1 locomotive.
This boiler is currently (September 2004) stored on the Avon Valley Railway.
