A condition produced by the bite of the brown recluse spider of North America and characterized by a gangrenous slough at the site of bite, nausea, malaise, fever, hemolysis, and thrombocytopenia.

The term appears to be derivative of the spider's scientific classification, Loxosceles reclusa.
