Lower Klamath Lake
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lower Klamath Lake is a lake in Siskiyou County, California, that currently serves to hold overflow water for irrigation. At one time it was connected to Upper Klamath Lake.
The lake is near California's border with Oregon and the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge (the first American bird sanctuary, established in 1908) that covers the northern part of the lake extends into Oregon as well.
The area around the lake was the home of the Modoc people prior to European contact.
