Lowden is a city in Cedar County, Iowa, United States. The population was 794 at the 2000 census.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 794 people, 342 households, and 230 families residing in the city. The population density was 303.5/km² (785.3/mi²). There were 359 housing units at an average density of 137.2/km² (355.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.12% White, 0.13% African American, 0.13% Asian, 0.63% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.13% of the population.
There were 342 households out of which 26.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.1% were married couples living together, 6.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% were non-families. 30.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.84.
In the city the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 23.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 92.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $35,714, and the median income for a family was $45,735. Males had a median income of $32,679 versus $24,063 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,303. About 4.3% of families and 6.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.3% of those under age 18 and 14.5% of those age 65 or over.
