Lover I Don't Have to Love

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Lover I Don't Have to Love" is a song by Bright Eyes. It was released as a single in 2002 and placed on the album Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground. The song, as played by Conor Oberst, is a first person narrative, telling the listener of the narrator's night, about drug usage.

Conor has expressed distaste at the popular reception of the song, notably spitting on a group of girls who screamed for it at a Texas show[citation needed].

It was covered by Bettie Serveert on their 2004 album Attagirl, and this cover was played extensively during episode 18 of season 3 of FOX's The O.C.
