Lovebox

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lovebox weekender is a music festival that takes place in Victoria Park in east London towards the end of July over two days. [1] Lovebox was originally the name of a London club night hosted by dance music duo Groove Armada, it was also the name of an album by the same band that helped establish the musical concept that became Lovebox. [2]

In 2003, the Lovebox club concept was expanded making the event a one day festival on London's Clapham Common - the concert was repeated there in 2004, but moved to Victoria Park in 2005, where it was now spread over two days. In 2006, the Lovebox weekender returned to Victoria Park with nine smaller venues and the main stage with DJ sets and live pas from club and radio djs; bands, acoustic performers.

[edit] Lovebox 2006

Generally referred to simply as "Lovebox" by those attending the festival; in 2006 the event was headlined by performances from the bands Groove Armada and Jamiroquai.[3]

BBC Radio 1, and 1 Xtra DJs including Gilles Peterson, Benji B[1] and BBC London's Norman Jay played DJ sets alongside hip hop DJs and performers such as Roots Manuva, and DJ Marky who plays drum and bass. But the festival prides itself in bringing together diverse independent musicians and djs across several musical genres including house music, broken beat and more eclectic electro styles. In 2006 the event saw an acoustic guitar performance from Rodrigo Y Gabriella, a live set from disco vocalist Candi Staton alongside other established performers including reggae singer Jimmy Cliff.
