[edit] Plot with spoilers
Ho Kam-An (Stephen Chow) is weak and disadvantaged but very kind lunch delivery boy happens to fall in love with Lily (Christy Chung) the girl of his dreams from his local sport center. Only to have his dream crushed after a disastrous date in which Lily was punched in the face by accident from a bullying Judo master named Black Bear when Ho showed his cowardice (whom was ducking from Black Bear fist). Later that night in a straight forward way Lily told Ho that she dislike weak and pathetic men.
A heartbroken Ho was walking aimlessly until he came upon a convenient store owned by Tat (Man Tat Ng) whom claims to know a secret kung fu that will make turn any weaklings into a champion in short time, to reinforce that dream, Ho gladly accepted Tat as his sifu. What Ho wasn't aware of is that Tat is actually a swindler who taught him only useless fantasy kung fu techniques. During the examination day Tat tried to get rid of Ho (only because Ho was fired from his work and hence he is dirt poor and couldn't pay for the fees) by teaching him "invincible wind and fire wheel", Ho was told to roll downwards towards a flight of few hundred steps (in the hope of seriously injuring Ho so he won' bother Tat anymore). However Tat had a change of heart later on and tried to stop Ho from rolling down the steps only to accidentally roll down the steps himself and seriously injuring himself, however Ho who been watching Tat had mistakenly thinking that Tat sacrificed himself to teach him the secret art of "invincible wind and fire wheel" said that he now know how to do this secret technique.
When Lily was assaulted by Black Bear after a failed attempt to woe her, Ho mysteriously turns up wearing a Garfield mask to rescues her. A vicious fight occurs between Black Bear and Ho in which no matter how many times Black Bear knock down Ho he still managed to continue the fight. At the end Ho managed to use Invicible Firewheel on Black Bear and they both rolled down a set of stairs, seriously injuring Black Bear causing him multiple concussion.
However as Ho later on tries to tell Lily that it was he who saved her that day, Lily's boyfriend, a karate champion from Japan, claims that he was the one who saved her. Enraged, the Ho challenges him to a life and death match in a boxing ring. Tat knows that he is too weak to win, so he devises a strategy. For the first round, he would use intimidation by partying all month long, making the karate master feel belittled. For the second round, his teacher would threaten the karate fighter into submission. And in the third round, the delivery boy would use the ultimate defensive technique, the "lock". Finally, in a heated final battle, the delivery boy uses his "invincible wind and fire wheel" to defeat the karate master using a large wheel of fortune.
[edit] Trivia
- This movie is heavily based on a Japanese manga called Hakaiou Noritaka (by Takashi Hamori) about a disadvantaged high school teenager who practiced Muay Thai just to become stronger to impress the school beauty, he also had to defeat his bullies just to win her heart.
- The egg eye googles complete with shark fin cap is another nod to Japanese Manga Ultraman.
- Jacky Cheung appears as a cameo as himself, in which he give the best seat tickets to Ho.
- The introduction scene of Ho is a parody of Terminator, in which he walks naked in a street before being taken away by police (as he gave away his clothes to a beggar as an act of kindness).
