At the town meeting, Luke clashes with Mayor Harry Porter and the rest of the town over the annual reenactment of the Battle of Stars Hollow. Luke scoffs at the reenactors, despite the fact that his father was a dedicated reenactor. The reenactors remain outside at their posts all night, despite the arrival of the first snowstorm of the year. As the storm gets worse, Luke eventually softens and brings them coffee and hot chocolate.
Lane tries to tell Rory about her crush on Rich Bloomenfled, her band partner, but Rory is too distracted by school and Dean to listen. Overcome by her crush, she runs her fingers through his hair at band practice, then runs away in embarrassment. She calls Rory and lets her now how neglected she feels, but the phone dies before they can work things out.
Because of the snowstorm, Rory goes to her grandparents' house to spend the night while Lorelei stays in Stars Hollow. Since her grandparents' cook cannot make it, Rory heats up frozen pizza for them to eat. However, the happy mood is ruined when Rory brings out an old photo album that contains a picture of her mother in her debutante gown for the coming-out party which she never had.
Lorelai is giddy because of the snow, and she takes a walk to celebrate. Along the way she runs into Max, whose car has broken down in Stars Hollow. They decide to go on their first date. At the end of the evening, Lorelai invites Max inside; however, she finds Lane waiting for Rory in her room. Lorelai comforts her about Rich Bloomenfeld and invites her to spend the night, so Max ends up sleeping on the couch.
When Rory gets home in the morning, she is upset to find Max on the couch, but she tries to remain calm. She patches things up with Lane, and they make plan to meet at Luke's later that afternoon. As the episode ends, Lorelai and Max laugh in the living room while Rory sadly looks at old photo booth pictures of Lorelai and Christopher.
