"Love Is Blindness" is the twelfth and final song from U2's 1991 album, Achtung Baby. Much of the album relates to love gone wrong, in one form or another; the lyrics to "Love Is Blindness" reflect this theme, juxtaposing love and violent imagery:
In a parked car
In a crowded street
You see your love
Made complete
Thread is ripping
The knot is slipping
Love is blindness
Fans have speculated that the song addresses the Troubles in Northern Ireland.[1] Bono described the Edge's guitar solo as "a more eloquent prayer than anything I could write."[2]
The song often closed shows on the Zoo TV Tour with images of the night sky projected around the stage. The Edge played the song on his Gibson Les Paul Custom, and included an extended guitar solo in the live performances. A backing track was used to create some of the resonating bass effects. A performance is seen on the Zoo TV: Live from Sydney video, with Bono performing the song in his MacPhisto persona and dancing with a girl from the audience.
It was not played again until March 1, 2006 on the Vertigo Tour's stop in Buenos Aires.[3] This performance of the song was not complete and did not feature the usual solo of The Edge.
