Love INC

Love INC (short for Love in the name of Christ) is an American Christian charitable organisation. Its slogan is "Mobilizing the Church to transform lives and communities In the Name of Christ." There are over 120 Love INC affiliates in 30 states that help nearly 1 million people in need each year through over 8,000 churches, 5,000 community agencies, and 160,000 volunteers.[1](Organization records)
The organization was founded in 1977 by Virgil Gulker who noticed a disconnect between the organizations in his community attempting to help the needy and the resources available through the churches. If only the effort could be broken down into manageable pieces, this large resource of people who really believed they should help could be mobilized. He published a book, Help is Just Around the Corner in 1987, outlining this model and its successes.
At its most basic, local groups of Christians, organized as affiliates of the national organization, attempt to fill in the gaps between the mandates and capabilities of the agencies and non-profits already aiding the needy in the community. This model uses a clearinghouse format which attempts to match the needs against the resources available and, where gaps exist, enlists the aid of individual church members and/or a network of churches in the community.
