Love Ends Disaster!
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Love Ends Disaster! are an indie rock band heralding from Nottingham, England, made up of Suffolk-raised brothers Matt and Jon Dix, part-time Dolphin Trainer Matthew Oakes, Fine Artist Robert Sadler, and Blackpool-originating drummer, Peter Jones.
The band were one of the first acts arise from the Pineapster community, and an early gig was completed for the co-operative.
On the basis of their first demo, Volume I, recorded in 2003 and combining the Post-Rock of Mogwai, Talking Heads-inspired rythmns and cutting, spikey guitars reminiscent of Johnny Greenwood and Graham Coxon, the band were snapped up by High Wycombe's Denial Records, responsible for recording the first studio outing of Bloc Party ("Storm & Stress") in 2003.
2005 saw the release of the band's first (and now sold out) EP, Stories For The Dislocated, limited to 1000 copies on CD and containing the notable tracks Sendai, Ginko Disco and Warning:Robots. Recorded by Warren Bassett (The Fall, Bloc Party), the EP is testament to the bands feedback-saturated pop, sounding something like Interpol would if they were a little more experimental and had some fun now and again. The EP gathered momentum throughout 2005, gaining rave reviews from the likes of Rough Trade Shop and Drowned in Sound, drawing comparisons to British Sea Power, Talking Heads, Radiohead and Sonic Youth.
The group have since played with the likes of Babyshambles, Red Jetson, Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies, Polysics, Polytechnic and The Departure
August 2005 saw the culmination of the bands promotion for Stories for the dislocated with a Rising Stage appearance at Leicester's Summer Sundae weekend festival alongside Yo La Tengo, Idlewild, KT Tunstall and Editors.
Notable fans of the EP include Gordon Moakes from Bloc Party and The Departure.
Their second EP, Faster, Faster... was released on May 29th 2006, again through Denial Records. A third release, Ladders, is released on March 12th 2007, through the UK indie label Yellow Noise.

"...The debut 5 track CD E.P. from Love Ends Disaster! has the same listening sensation we got when we heard the first Bloc Party 7". It's 5 sharp 3 minute bursts of post punk that recall the jangling guitars of the Postcard-era / The Wedding Present, the vocals of Pete Murphy from bauhaus, the melodies of the Psychedelic Furs and in track 5 they have the new 'Killing an Arab' for this generation. Within the year this band will be massive. We've not been wrong before."
"...Ladies and gentlemen let me give you the first GREAT single of 2005.... every song on the E.P. could quite easily stand up as a single in its own right, and since Oasis' halcyon days of the mid-90s not many artists can claim to have matched quantity with quality."
"...Love Ends Disaster! meanwhile go from strength to strength with every show. Despite the Bloc Party endorsements and rave reviews picked up by last year’s ‘Stories For The Dislocated EP’, it’s fair to say neither of these do the band justice compared to their captivating live show. Singer Matthew Oakes stares at the front row like a man possessed, pounding to and fro across the stage while his band’s incendiary mash up of angular, punk-pop, jangly ska tunes create a mangle on and off the stage. ‘Ginko Disco’ is a melange of disco punk that recalls Devo at their most eclectic while ‘Warning Robots’, complete with it’s ‘Red Dwarf’ signature tune middle eight rips through the floor like a jet powered buzzsaw. If this isn’t their year then I’m a Chinaman…"
