Louisiana Environmental Action Network

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Louisiana Environmental Action Network (L.E.A.N.) was founded to help citizens change the balance of power and challenge the continued economic and ecological suicide of the community. By empowering more than one hundred grassroots community organizations and countless individuals, L.E.A.N. has already helped in gaining a tremendous foothold in the war to make Louisiana's communities safer, healthier places to live. L.E.A.N.'s expanded efforts will allow the progress already made to continue. 1

“L.E.A.N. is a statewide network of 106 member groups and 1700+ individual members. L.E.A.N. works to improve the environment for the benefit of all of the citizens of Louisiana.” 2 L.E.A.N.'s Mission is to foster cooperation and communication between individual citizens and corporate and government organizations in an effort to assess and mend the environmental problems in Louisiana. L.E.A.N.'s goal is the creation and maintenance of a cleaner and healthier environment for all of the inhabitants of this state. 1

L.E.A.N. holds press conferences and sends out news releases to government leaders to make them aware of the current environmental issues. L.E.A.N. also coordinates a People's Conference at which the organizations and its members gather for fellowship, education, and solidarity. They are also working with citizens' groups to develop, implement, protect, and enforce legislative and regulatory environmental safeguards.

L.E.A.N. is a statewide umbrella group with many member groups that it has helped to organize. L.E.A.N. provides these member groups, as well as individual citizens, with the support and resources required to accomplish their environmental goals.3

Presently, L.E.A.N. is consistently publishing their monthly newsletter, "Environmental Watch Newsletter", and developing their website for the public.
