- Lough Owel is a lough in the Midlands of Ireland, situated north of Mullingar, the county town of Westmeath in Ireland. It is a deep lake, well known amongst anglers, and holds a few char along with brown trout. Water from Lough Owel feeds the Royal Canal, a canal crossing Ireland from Dublin to the River Shannon. Access to the lake can be gained from a carpark and pier to the south of the N4 Mullingar to Longford route.
Lough Owel and Lough Ennell are two of many lakes that form the river Brosna baisin. The Brosna, is another Leinster tribrituary river to the famous river Shannon, flowing through Mullingar, Kilbeggan both in Westmeath, and from there, through the town of Clara County Offaly into the Shannon.

- Melaghlin (or Malacky) also refered to as King Malachy, a north Leinster local chieften who is acclaimed to have killed by drowning Turgesius the viking, in the year 843 or 844. who took by force the rural community of Dublin and much of Leinster during the middle ages.
