Loudoun Rangers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Loudoun Rangers were a partisan cavalry unit that fought for the Union during the American Civil War.

Comprised mostly of locals from the northern Loudoun Valley (a region that was largely pro-Union in sentiment), the company often fought alongside Cole's Maryland Cavalry. Although they saw regular action, such as at the Battle of Mile Hill, and were eventually absorbed into regular Union service, the Rangers mainly antagonized local Confederate partisan groups such as those led by John S. Mosby, John Mobberly, and Elijah V. White.
