[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

[1]A group of young American tourists travel up a long and isolated stretch of road along Queensland's Central Coast, headed for the tourist capitals of the Far North. In this barren, no man's land they encounter a community of men who ravage, brutalize, and murder outsiders on a regular and systematic basis. The effects of isolation, sensory depravation and unrelenting heat, have made them nature's monsters. They indulge in, and get away with, their darkest, most sadistic urges. The tourists are thrust into a brutal survival crisis, with no visible means of escape. Each is forced to examine their flaws and strengths as they face their horrific, and inevitable, fate in The Dead Heart of the Australian Outback.

A clash between civilized behavior and unrestrained, primal gratification. It examines the effects of extreme isolation on the human psyche, and the absolute power of nature to destroy the artificial veneer of control that keeps destructive, sexual, sadistic, and murderous urges in check. In a land without boundaries, nature is law, and man's darkest urges are pursued to their conclusion.
