[edit] Music video
The music video for "Lose My Breath" was directed by Marc Klasfeld and was shot in Los Angeles in the week of October 6, 2004.
The video takes place in an alleyway, where the girls are having a dance off with the crowd and twin alternate versions of themselves. It's mainly about how the dancer's can't dance to their expectations, thus making them scoff at the male dancers.
The editing and camera work includes a lot of fast cutting and sweeping shots. The shoot was covered on MTV's Making The Video and spawned two different versions, containing some different shots and angles, but this version was only shown once on TRL as the world premiere.
[edit] Chart performance
"Lose My Breath" quickly entered the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. The single peaked at number three on that chart, becoming Destiny's Child's ninth top ten single. The song also peaked at number three in Australia, and peaked at number two in the UK. The music video was nominated at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards in the Best Dance Video category.
In United Kingdom, "Lose My Breath" was beaten to the top of the singles chart by the Eminem single "Just Lose It" on the first week, U2's "Vertigo" the following week, and Girls Aloud's "I'll Stand by You" for further two weeks. However, it did spend a month at #2 and was certified silver by the BPI after selling 221,000 copies, performing better than these three singles which have kept "Lose My Breath" off the top position. It remained within the top ten for seven consecutive weeks and was one of the biggest hits of late 2004. "Lose My Breath" was certified double platinum by the RIAA for selling in excess of 400,000 digital downloads. It did however top the singles chart in other European countries which were in Ireland and Switzerland. In Israel, it maintained at the number one position for an impressive fourteen weeks. Moreover, it was number one on the United World Tracks Charts for eleven weeks.
In Latin America the song was the first single of the group to chart in the Latin America Top 40, because the chart was created in Mid-2004, was a moderate hit debuting at #39 to peak the following week at #29.
