Los Cadetes de Linares

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Los Cadetes de Linares is one of the oldest Norteño groups still in existence. They originate from the small city of Linares, Nuevo León. Many of the original corridos were written and sung by this band. Only two of the five members (Homero Guerrero y Lupe Tijerina) are from the original group right now but they continue to perform in Mexico in locations such as the states, Sinaloa, Sonora, Michoacan, Baja California, and also in U.S. western states such as California, Texas, Oregon, New Mexico, Arizona and including (in the mid-east) Illinois. It's stipulated where and when their career began in the recording industry but most agree it was around the years 1959-1962; bias to the anonymity of their beginnings it's a fact that they began in the southern-most state of Nuevo León. By this year their conjunction was not tightly packed due to the fact that their members were loosely changing every few years, but by the year 1974 they officially pronounced themselves as Los Cadetes de Linares (at several performances). At the time, Los Cadetes de Linares have yet made a name for themselves on any major record label, but their luck would change for the good, when one day a co-manager of a record label (It's unknown who the record label was but piraters were the majority of the blame for this) noticed their unique technique during their performance and after the show asked them if they were interested to assign themselves to a recording contract, but the loop-hole in the contract was the promise of a big payment, and to Los Cadetes de Linares this was an offer they couldn't refuse.

By the year 1980 Los Cadetes de Linares already began their first chapter of noticement, and their unsolved niche, which attracted various people from ranges of poverty-quenched towns and pueblos in Mexico, to rich neighbourhoods in California. They've also recorded their first hits named, "Dos Coronas a Mi Madre" ("Two Wreaths for my Mother"), "Los Dos Amigos" ("The two Friends"), and "Los Pistoleros Famosos" ("The Famous Gunslingers").

Homero Guerrero died in February 1982 in a tragic car accident. Within a year of his death Rosendo Cantu replaced him. Cantu and Tijerina sang together from around late 1982 or 1983 through 1991, then rejoined again in the late 90's. There have been many knock off Cadetes including Los Cadetes de Linares de Homero Guerrero Jr., Los Nuevos Cadetes, Los Cadetes de Linares de Alfredo Guerrero de La Cerda, Los Cadetes de Linares de Rosendo Cantu and Los Cadetes de Linares de Lupe Tijerina. None however can match the cohesion and style of the Originales Cadetes de Linares comprised of Homero Guerrero and Lupe Tijerina. Although Rosendo Cantu and Lupe were a great second.
