Los Angeles Master Chorale

The Los Angeles Master Chorale is a famous professional chorus in Los Angeles, California. Grant Gershon has been its music director since 2001, succeeding Paul Salamunovich. The Master Chorale performs about fifteen times per year in its own season, as well as appearing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic from time to time. Since 2003 its principal concert venue has been Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Morten Lauridsen was its composer-in-residence from 1994 through 2001.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale, established ca 1965, has performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall since 2003.

It has received accolades for its innovative programming. For its commitment to commissioning new works, the ensemble received the ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming in 2003.

The Chorale has recorded two CDs under Mr. Gershon: You Are (Variations) by Steve Reich on Nonesuch Records and an RCM recording of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s first choral work—Two Songs to Poems of Ann Jäderlun—and Philip Glass’ Itaipu. The Chorale released three CDs under the baton of Music Director Emeritus Paul Salamunovich, including the Grammy-nominated Lauridsen-Lux Aeterna. Mr. Salamunovich also conducted the Los Angeles Master Chorale on the soundtracks of numerous major motion pictures, including A.I. Artificial Intelligence, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Sum of all Fears and Waterworld.
