Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) is a public high school that operates on the campus of California State University, Los Angeles. Though it shares facilities with the university, the two schools' activities tend to be separate. It is operated by the Los Angeles County Office of Education [1].
The school specializes in the training of dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. It is the only arts high school in Los Angeles that allows students from any district within Los Angeles County to attend. It is also one of few schools whose admissions aren't based on magnet points.

[edit] Admission
Students who want to enroll in this school need to audition to get in. Usually, 80-95% of the first-year LACHSA students are freshmen (9th grade). Few are sophmores (10th grade) and juniors (11th grade). This is because it is much harder for an incoming sophmores and juniors to get in. There are usually no incoming seniors (12th grade). Each year, around 500+ students audition to get in, but only around 130 are accepted and enroll.
Each art department has a separate audition process and students can only audition for one department. Enrolled students can change into a different department with the approval of the department chairs and counselors. Students can also double major once they get into LACHSA.
[edit] Population
LACHSA has four departments. Dance, Music, Theater, and Visual Arts. There are also sub-departments within each of the art areas. For example, in the Music Department, there are vocalists and there are instrumentalists. The Music Department has the most students, followed by the Theatre Department, Visual Arts and Dance.
