Los Angeles Art Association

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Los Angeles Art Association (LAAA) is a non-profit organization that has been around for over eighty years. The organization accepts artists as members and provides the artists support in growing their artistic careers. LAAA operations are administered by an Executive Director and an Artistic Director, with oversight by an active Board of Directors. The organization also has an Advisory Board of prominent individuals in the Los Angeles art scene.

The organization operates a gallery space in Los Angeles called Gallery 825. This facility is available to members to show their art. Solo and group shows are scheduled throughout the year. Some group shows are open shows, but most are curated. Every year members submit their proposals for solo shows and a committee decides which of the artists will have solo shows at the Gallery 825 space at 825 North La Cienega Blvd. in Los Angeles.

Twice a year artists are given the opportunity to submit art to a selection committee to become new members of the association. There is an annual membership fee that is used to support the organization and the membership gains the following benefits from that membership:

The opportunity to present their art in solo or group shows at the Gallery 825 space.

Workshops on all aspects of the business of being an artist - from how to present your art to a gallery to how to write an artist statement and much more in between.

Networking with other artists - this is such an important benefit for an artist when most art is such a personal and individual exercise.

Teaching opportunities in a classroom environment in an art program open to the public at the Gallery 825 space.

Hash sessions are arranged regularly where artists meet to discuss whatever is on their minds with a goal of learning from each other.

The current Executive Director is Peter Mays. The Artistic Director is Sinead Finnerty. The Board of Directors is comprised of President Midge Lynn, Vice President Karin Newlin, Finance Chair Paul Blieden, and Board Members Steve Dworkin, Michael E. Napoliello Jr., Debra Stevenson and Carlos Gutierrez.
