What beleifs did the Pacific/Oceanic people beleive in before the missionaries came to the Pacific?
If you're talking about religion, they were a mix primarily of southeast asian religions (shinto, buddhism) and a native nature-based worship.
[edit] This article lacks historical "objectivity" by omitting many facts...
For one thing, there is nothing "alleged" about the involvement of United states Marines. On the orders of John L. Stevens, United States Department of State Minister to the Kingdom oh Hawaii, a company of Marines was landed in Honolulu and position themselves facing 'Iolani Palace. The Marines were equipped with Gatling guns, revolving cannons, 14,000 rounds of ammunition, etc., - they certainly were not there on a goodwill mission.
In certain quarters, Thurston is regarded as a traitor to his country the then Kingdom of Hawaii. This is all still very "fresh" history in the minds of many Hawaiian people. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.211.48.147 (talk) 01:05, 28 January 2007 (UTC).
- Please read the Morgan Report. The final full senate investigation into the matter exonerated the U.S. peacekeepers from doing anything but acting neutrally, as they had in 1889. --JereKrischel 07:57, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
