According to [1], the Dukes of Savoy used the title of "Count of Piedmont" from at least 1417 until 1447, when it was elevated to a principality. However, in 1436 and 1438, Louis, Duke of Savoy, before his accession as Duke of Savoy, uses the title "Prince of Piedmont", firstborn son of "Amadeus, Duke of Savoy...Count of Piedmont...".
