Lorenzo J. Greene


Lorenzo J. Greene is a noted lecturer and a well known professor at the Lincoln University. Married to Thomasina Talley on Dec, 19, 1941 and has only one son Lorenzo Thomas Greene born in 1952. He was one of the first of his African American fellow brothers to graduate from Ansonia High School in 1917. He is well known for serving as the president of the Association for the study of African American life and history during the years 1965 and 1966. Dr Greene lived in Jefferson City for 52 years and was an early leader in the civil rights movement in Missouri. He was named by President Hoover to the commission of Negro Housing in 1931 and later in the 1950’s for the establishment of the Missouri Human Rights Commission. On Jan 2, 1988 Dr. Greene passed away and is still survived by his wife Thomasina, son Thomas and sister Careatha Anderson.


Education:


After attending Ansonia High School, Greene went on to graduate from Howard University with a bachelor’s of Arts, followed by a master’s of Arts in History in 1926 and a PhD in History in 1942 both from Columbia University in New York city. In 1974 he was awarded an honorary doctor of letters degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

• “The Negro in Missouri”, co-authored with Antonio Holland and Gary Kremer, 1974-1975.
