Lorenzo Delmonico

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lorenzo Delmonico (1813-1881) was born in Marengo, Switzerland. He was known to go to New York in 1831 to join his uncles' business, Delmonico's Restaurant. Though not a chef, Lorenzo Delmonico was responsible for the restaurant's wine list and menu. Delmonico's Restaurant created both Chicken à la King and Lobster Newburg, though the restaurant closed, due to Prohibition, in 1923.
