Loren Cass

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Loren Cass is a feature length punk rock film written and directed by Chris Fuller.

Set in St. Petersburg, Florida following the 1996 rebellions, the film debuted in 2006 to much positive press. It is considered an intelligent narrative deconstruction by film enthusiasts and an instant cult film, due to its unconventional storytelling, underground soundtrack and well-known cast. The movie took 8 years to create and was made for less than $1,000,000.

The cast includes Kayla Tabish (The Girl Next Door), Jacob Reynolds (Gummo, The Road to Wellville), Travis Maynard, Lewis Brogan, Keith Morris (Circle Jerks, Black Flag), Blag Dahlia (The Dwarves), Florida street poet Mike Glausier, Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Din Thomas, Adam Gnade ("talking songs" artist), John Holmstrom (Punk (magazine)) and an appearance by New York punk band Leftover Crack. The soundtrack also features music from Stiff Little Fingers, Billy Bragg, Don Caballero, DJ Shadow, Hüsker Dü, Hayden, and Propagandhi.

The film was released in select theatres in 2006 and had showings at the 2006 Atlanta Underground Film Festival and 2007 Bradford International Film Festival. The release was overseen by independent film consultant Bob Hawk, best known for discovering Kevin Smith's 1994 comedy Clerks.

It garnered strong reactions due to its depiction of the public suicide of Budd Dwyer, a friend of Fuller's great-grandfather.
