[edit] Summary
It was released in the first half of 1993 but did not perform as well as previous releases from Archer, although it debuted inside the top 40 unlike previous releases, it stalled at #26 and completely dropped off of the charts three weeks later. There is no definite reason why the song failed to reach the heights of the top 20, one possibility is the fact that Lords Of The New Church was the third single to be taken of Archer’s hit album Great Expectations.
[edit] More Information
- The lyrics of Lords Of The New Church are not primarily religious (although they could be interpreted that way). Archer describes the song as “it's about the modern breed of politicians and it was written in the very early 1990's even before things became has bad as they are now.”
- Four instruments were used in the recording of Lords Of The New Church, John Hughes, Elliott Randall and Robbie McIntosh provided the guitars in the song whereas John Beck and Paul Wickens played keyboards. The drummer on the track was Charlie Morgan whilst Peter Kaye played fairlight.
