Lord Kaos was an Australian black metal band formed in Sydney, Australia 1994. Originally a five piece band, they soon dropped the original drummer in favour of a drum machine and recorded their demo, Path To My Funeral Light in 1995. They also recorded their first album, Thorns of Impurity in 1995 and was released in 1996. The release sold so well overseas that Astennu was asked to join Dimmu Borgir. Astennu urged his bandmates to follow, but they declined, preferring to remain in Australia with their current label. So Astennu left the band, and was a guitarist for Dimmu Borgir from 1997—1999. Lord Kaos eventually disbanded in 2001[2].

Notable gigs include performances at Metal for the Brain, Australia's biggest heavy metal music festival, in 1998, 1999 and 2000[3][4][5] and in 1997 they supported Cradle of Filth[6].
