Lord Barkis Bittern
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lord Barkis Bittern is a villain from the movie Corpse Bride, voiced by Richard E. Grant.
Lord Barkis went to the house of the Everglots to watch Victoria Everglot and Victor Van Dort's wedding rehearsal, and hope that Victor would shirk off as the groom, leaving Barkis to resume the duty. When Barkis tells Victoria's parents that Victor was seen with a mysterious woman after he disappeared, they decided to make their daughter marry Lord Barkis, instead of Victor Van Dort. In the church, it was revealed that Barkis wanted to marry Victoria, so he could murder her and take her family's money. It is only after the marriage that he learned that the Everglots are bankrupt. Barkis was, for all purposes, a gold digger, meaning he only wants certain women purely out of want of their money.
Then, he is confronted at the church and there he discovers that the Corpse Bride is Emily, who he murdered years ago. Barkis confronts Victor with a sword pulled out of General Bonesapart. After the fight, Barkis realizes that he cannot win, and grabs the poisoned wine without knowing it was poisoned (which was the "Wine of Ages", a special wine which would end a person's life forever), and he begins to mock Emily. He then begins to drink the wine, and is about to leave, but the wine had taken its effect, leaving him dead, but still conscious and the rest of the dead guests finish Barkis off, dragging Barkis off to a door to some unknown fate.
He resembles greatly the stop motion film villain, Lord Victor Quartermaine from which Helena Bonham Carter has also acted in.
