Lord Arrin

Lord Arrin is a character in the Guardians of Ga'hoole book series.

Lord Arrin, a Spotted Owl, was once one of King H'rath's top advisors, until he became a turnfeather by allying with the hagsfiends, starting the war, and murdering King H'rath. His goal was to capture Queen Siv and make her his mate, as well as using the hagsfiends' nachtmagen to turn the egg into a creature that could help him in his quest to rule the Northern Kingdoms. However, Lord Arrin couldn't complete his conquest because Queen Siv, H'rath's mate, escaped with the luminous egg containing the true heir to the throne, Hoole.

Lord Arrin tried twice to capture the young prince- first by sending the hagsfiend Ygryk to steal Siv's egg, resulting in Myrrthe's murder; and the second by sending the hagsfiend Ullryck to capture hatchling Hoole not long after he had hastched. Both bids failed, and Lord Arrin tried for one last time to capture the prince at the Battle of the Beyond. However, he was badly defeated, and many of his allies were killed or deserted- Penryck and Ullryck among them.

But Lord Arrin slowly gathered new forces, biding his time, and schemed to take the Ice Palace of the N'yrthghar from Theo's crazy brother, Shadyk. The turnfeather lord also set his eyes on Emerilla, daughter of Strix Strumajen, for his mate. At the battle, however, Lord Arrin was instead met by the forces of a fully grown Hoole, who had become King of the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, and a fierce battle was fought.

In the end, Lord Arrin was killed, and Hoole took the Ice Palce, finally achieving his destiny as he was crowned High King of the Northern Kingdoms, and took the love of his life Emerilla as his mate.
