Lord (horse)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lord was a top class Australian thoroughbred racehorse. He was a bay son of Targui from the Actor mare Broadway.

He is probably best remembered for his run in the 1960 VRC Queens Plate where he almost defeated the champion Tulloch, who was returning to the track following a long illness that had forced him off the scene for almost two years.

Lord usually competed in weight for age contests and all but one of his 28 successes were in Melbourne. In another quirk 21 of these were at his home track of Caulfield.

A hardy performer Lord raced until he was a nine-year old and often competed against quality opposition such as Tulloch, Todman, Sky High and Aquanita.

Amongst his major wins was the VATC Caulfield Stakes (3 times), VATC Memsie Stakes (4 times) and the AJC All Aged Stakes.

He died in 1986 at the age of 32.
