Template talk:Lopbn L1 typical link

[edit] Development history

  1. That version handled the two kinds of "typical" LoPbN lks, namely lks to a page covering names beginning with a specific prefix, and those to one covering a range (more specifically, a range from those beginning with one prefix thru those beginning with another). Its basic job was to avoid misspelling or mispunctuating either the file name or the "piping" (rendering-spec) in these two common cases.
  2. The new version, just installed, takes on a different kind of task, that fits well into the implemenation of the original. Occasionally higher-level templates find it convenient to express a specific prefix as a range starting and ending with the same prefix. Neither the filenames nor courtesy to users would be compatible with it, except with coding that way, were it not that this template now checks its input for that, & translates.
