[edit] Get rid of the page...

Hello I requested that the page be removed, MacGregor State High School, because the staff at Macgregot state high school, have requested it be taken down, as soon as possible. and it also seems, that Wiki staff wnat it taken down anyay..so we are all happy. if you checked the history of the page, you will see that I'M the orignal creator.

And, no, I'm not a Noob. I have read some of the guides here, and although I'm still learning, don't reat me like one...I know how to use the (Tayuke 01:31, 21 November 2006 (UTC)) fuction. And I do have enough knowlage to start a decent page.

Please, do not make it hard for me, and get Ed Queensland to interfer. i will continue to place the page back up, til it has come down.

Thanks

[edit] WP Australian fauna

Firstly thanks for putting that WikiProject in its proper place. But can you clear this up for me, how did it get into the article space before? It's all a bit confusing to me. Atlantis Hawk 09:51, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User talk:59.93.194.94

You forgot to subst a warning template there so I did it, btw, I have been trying to email you for months but it appears you have not specified a valid email adress, which administrators are expected to have, as I have heard. Myrtone () 15:31, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Aparantly your email is broken. Also, since I first tried, have you been aware of this, Tony Sidaway (talk contribs blocks protects deletions moves) who has been repeatedly blocked for mususing his assigned permission, has been limited the adminsative 1RR since this ruling, and has recently requested self-desysop and currently has no intention of reapplying for adminship. Yes, MediaWiki has changed (alot) compared to even a year ago, as far as I know (note: This user is a poet and he didn't know it.). Myrtone () 14:13, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

I just wanted to say thanks for the welcome! Much appreciated. Bruin03 08:21, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Did you delete my page

I spent a lot of time working on my page and you sent me something about it not being credible enough and then it was just gone I was going back to add more things to make it better but the whole thing is gone! Is there anyway to get it back so i can fix it? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sammaul (talk • contribs).

An article that I submitted a couple months ago was deleted with the reason "an article about a person, group of people, band, club, company or website that does not assert the importance or significance of the subject. (CSD A7)". The article was about software, which happens to be one of my favorite utilities, created by an individual programmer. The fact that I mentioned his name (as author of the program) and included a link to his website isn't reason to delete it under terms of it being about that person. Unfortunately I can't find the original article anywhere. I either want it restored or a good reason for its deletion, and if there's a good reason I guess I'll just need to start over and not give credit to the programmer. I asked for some help on this in the IRC channel #wikipedia-bootcamp (because I'm still a WikiNewbie) and gave them details about this, they told me to talk it over with Longhair in this talk page. --Pilot_51 () 08:03, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] John Cornforth

This article on the Australian Nobel Prize winner has been moved to John Cornforth (scientist) to allow it to become a disambiguation page between John Cornforth (scientist) and John Cornforth (footballer). Surely it should have stayed as John Cornforth, with that article saying: This article is about the Australian Nobel Prize winning chemist. For the footballer see John Cornforth (footballer). There are a large number of links to John Cornforth that now need to be altered unless we can reverse this. As an admin, can you advice how we get back to the situation I suggest? --Bduke 11:21, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your Signature Additon

You "signed" my RFC at John Howard. Why? At Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment it specifically says under Instructions Sign entries with the date only. Use five tildes.. Which is what I did. Have I missed something? Albatross2147 22:00, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi when you get a chance, could you have a look at Donkey show (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) (sorry not for the squeamish) - I have been accused of throwing a wiktantrum and disrupting wikipedia to make a point. [edit] Primary Sources tag

Whew! I think I'd have to get another parallel life if I wanted to put that one in the articles that need that tag! - wow almost my watch list x2! Oh well just noticed it on Perth Convention Centre. That will be a challenge. Just the veracity of the average source is a problem in itself. Oh well thanks for the push, if I get even half of what I want it will be like watching your WP Aust creep through my watch list :) SatuSuro 01:32, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

If we lived in the same place/city it would be the beer/wine/coffee/tea for the long afternoon talk about some areas of wiki that sit on very tenuous seats of dubious website links (I am indeed guilty of that in places) - anyways it will be a slow march to valhalla SatuSuro 01:40, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
heheh that would be the big black whole into which parts of some portals would certianly implode... SatuSuro 01:45, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
I took up the challenge for Agile Communications. Did I find enough suitable sources? I tagged one paragraph that I think needs a total rewrite, but not now (or delete). --Scott Davis Talk 04:27, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks - The Cisco reference is probably a bit weak on WP:RS, but the other references I found were from sources I had never heard of, or a press release distribution company, so I decided the main point was OK, but wouldn't trust the rest of the release as not PR propaganda. --Scott Davis Talk 05:33, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi Longhair, what happens if we cannot find any secondary sources for an article? eg Wrest Point Hotel Casino. This tag might be done with good intentions but I suspect there will be a lot of cases where we cannot find secondary sources and if that is the case then the tag may not be very useful. And I don't like the idea of the tag sitting on an article indefinitely. -- Barrylb 11:30, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Page move request

Hi Longhair, Sarah Ewart and Gnangarra,
SatuSuro suggests I ask one of you to move a page for me as per a consensus. I tried to move Indonesian National Revolution to Indonesian War of Independence - but had no luck, and i don't want to do a copy and paste. I think this [1] is consensus (amongst two aussies and two indonesians incidently!). Can you help? --Merbabu 11:51, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks Longhair, same thing over here [2]. I sent him an email. Nice to see you back on deck, Sarah Ewart 09:06, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, he's trying to force Ral to publish his two sentence Wiki project reports in the Signpost. Ral refused and Nathan took him to arbitration. Sarah Ewart 09:17, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
I know. :) I told Nathan I'm going to block him for disruption if he continues filing frivolous RfArbs against people. Riana and I are very impressed with the patience you and Scott showed. :) Sarah Ewart 09:27, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Hey Longhair, I hope you don't mind but I removed that suicide thread from the noticeboard. I've been emailing him and things weren't quite as dark as he first thought. I believe he is okay now and he's started editing again. I was just worried if he saw that thread he might get really embarrassed, especially as he is only 14-years-old. By the way, I thought you'd picked up a fan earlier but on checking the contribs, apparently not! Sarah Ewart 02:42, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

I agree wholeheartedly, Mr Longhair, it was definitely the right thing to do at the time. A woman my mum had been good friends with for about 30 years committed suicide a couple of years ago and sadly her daughter found her. :( It was all so terrible and devastating and so I believe in erring on the side of over-reacting. It's just not worth taking a chance.
Shorthair looked rather "interesting", but I think that image should come with a warning as it was rather frightening!! LOL.
I hope all is well with you and your family and that fires aren't close to you. Sarah Ewart 12:33, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the follow up

Good luck with the 2006-07 Australian bushfire season ! I am on a wikibreak at present - not succeeding terrifically on the slow down but somewhat and trying hard to avoid controversy and unpleasant subjects. Christmas preparations with family take precedence at the moment. Regards --Golden Wattle talk 19:04, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Scouts Australia

You asked for primary sources on this article. Are you happy with those I provided? It is not easy to find true independent sources. For example, who other than Scouts Australia, will mention the age range and name of different sections, yet that will be something people from other countries are interested in. I was surprised to find no list, on for example the GG's site, of the organisations for which he is patron or nominal head, so I had to make do with the Scouts Austalia page on the GG as Chief Scout. They are hardly going to lie about it. I welcome your input. --Bduke 00:10, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Maritime project

Was wondering when you might turn up :) - noticed the relationship with australia project change - have been having fun with saulih trying to work out the relationship between the maritime history and history exploration projects . BTW is there a point where categories become part of the australia project - or is it arts only? SatuSuro 07:32, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

As for the previous discussion - absolutely no one writes about scouts outside of the organisation these days - between the 1930's and 1950's there were always plenty of stories in the australian media - anybody would be really struggling to find anything for current media,(I better stop now, lest I start a long talk page diatribe...).. SatuSuro 07:32, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
But I do support your primary source issue with the Wrest Point Casino - google is a waster of times extraoridnaire - just to the State Lib of Tas, and the NLA catalogues and I could easily find heaps even in the description of the items to solve the problem (but I have just uncovered my unfinished PhD notes on things Javanese ...:) SatuSuro 08:05, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Good on you! - the NLA catalogue even has photos online !SatuSuro 10:05, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Take your time - if I start - will chatter far too much on all of the above... plus other things too - so beware! :) SatuSuro 10:11, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. I think where there is over-reliance on internal web sources - there could be a template checklist - viz - "'Have you checked library catalogues etc - the NLA and state library catalogues are not trawled by google - and in some cases the state library cataloguers have provided so much info in their annotations and descriptions - there is actually more in them than the ads that constitute many google entries, imho / as for the maritime history - the 'parent articles' in the heirarchy within wikipedia is more or less emporers clothes - more categories than there articles of any substance - specially the maritime history area - there are no real good models in any of wikipedia for which the australian maritime history can be compared - we will probably set an example for all the others the way things are going... ... having warned - maybe I should get back to the real stuff - there's other things that will come up no doubt. SatuSuro 11:34, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Mr Longhair, I sent you an email. It's not important, but I just didn't want to give credit by posting about it here. Cheers, Sarah Ewart 16:14, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
No, I didn't get any errors. I actually cc'd it to myself because an email I sent to Daniel Bryant never showed up. I received the cc okay. It isn't anything important, it was just about a website that was pointed out to me.
Is everything okay up your way? I hope you haven't had any fires near your place. Sarah Ewart 20:06, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
I've resent it. I feel a bit silly now because it really wasn't important! Sarah Ewart 20:25, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nathannoblet

When I posted my offer (on his talk page - I knew he had turned on you from my review of the edits. Fortunately, he can't file an arb or mediation case against me while blocked ;) I hope things go well - and we can help him see some boundaries, but if not - I hope that he at least sees that filing a retaliation at this point would pretty much seal the deal on a long block. --Trödel 21:28, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

I wouldn't oppose any action shortening the block, unblocking that you deem appropriate. It would be nice if he, i.e. I would like him to, affirmatively state that he accepts the mentoring and identifies what is frustrating him, and discusses some ways to resolve disputes first. I have exchanged one email with him, and things seem to be going positively. --Trödel 01:48, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I feel less paranoid today - I havent re-sent - could you look at WA police article? Maybe you'd react differently to it than me - I figured it was best that I didnt get stuck in... :) SatuSuro 01:17, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
It was the more recent unsubstantiated gripe paragraph by a red link editor - potential libel/unsubstatniated criticisms of the force that was my problem area - paranoia was simply from the issue of any internet savvy person doing a deep google searcch on my original user name - and more or less sorting out who I was in seconds flat - and Perth being small - well - point is redundant. Thanks for your time anyways. Freshwater Bay article - glad you found that - we have some work there!!SatuSuro 01:37, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Assessment

While you're thinking about "a parent project that assesses and sub-categorises assessments overall (Australia-wide) and per child projects (project wide)", you might like also to consider the situation where a child project has two unrelated parents both of which undertake assessments. e.g. if (I mean when) Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants decides to roll out article assessments, WP:BANKSIA will have two parents, both of which are assessing. In that situation, if we have a template that says:

  1. This article is part of WP:AUSTRALIA
  2. WP:AUSTRALIA rates it start-class, low-importance
  3. This article is supported by WP:BANKSIA
  4. WP:BANKSIA rates it start-class, high-importance

then we'll only have to tag it again as a WP:PLANTS article. Hence the proliferation of project tags.

The alternative is to take a bottom-up approach, where you define a {{WP Banksia}} template that says:

  1. This article is part of WP:BANKSIA
  2. WP:BANKSIA rates it start-class, high-importance
  3. It is supported by WP:AUSTRALIA
  4. WP:AUSTRALIA rates it start-class, low-importance

Then when WP:PLANTS comes on line, you simply update {{WP Banksia}} to include

  1. It is also supported by WP:PLANTS
  2. WP:PLANTS rates it start-class, mid importance

This alternative has the added bonus of prominently advertising the most specific WikiProject. Users who visit obscure pages like Talk:Banksia aemula are far more likely to respond to an "ad" for WP:BANKSIA than for the broader WP:AUSTRALIA.

Having thought about it a fair bit over the last few hours, I really do feel quite strongly that a top-level one-size-fits-all template is not the way to go. There should have a template for each sub-project, but where each sub-project template categorises articles into the parent assessment systems.

Recently an article authored by me (about Moondance magazine) was "speedy deleted" by one of the Wik admin (Radiant). In my search for the history of the page edits and comments I saw your name.... Or what appeared to be your name. It was someone using the name "Longhair." I will have to go over and find it again to see exactly where this occured. The deleted article has now been completely re-written. Hopefully to match Wik's good editorial standards (although the banner for deletion is still on the top of the article page which is troublesome). If you have a chance could you go over and take a look at it as an editor for Wikipedia and see what you think. All input on this would be helpful. There is a discussion also there. I am still expanding this article. I will try to find out specifically where I saw the name "Longhair" connected to this and send it to you also. You can link over directly to Moondance magazine here. All thanks. --Lysanzia 07:01, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

These are all made in good faith.

Also, Trodel said this on my talk page

Just keep making changes like you did to Coles Group recently

and we'll take things one step at a time. I got your list by email and am preparing an answer. I suggest that editing the main article pages and their talk pages is the best place to spend your time for now. It worries me a little that the 2nd edit you would make after the lifting of the block would be to a Wikipedia page; however, if all you want is some assurance that the effort will be worthwhile; then yes it is worthwhile. After you follow through with the mentoring plan and develop the writing skills you need, many options will be open to you including proposing an article to Ral315 for publication in the Signpost.

Thats in User Talk:Punk Boi 8/Archive5#Signpost.

In reply to my editing of comments, I did this because I thought this was in breach of WP:CHILD and WP:NPA.

[edit] {{primarysources}}

Hello Longhair. I'd assume with all your busywork asking for sources Special:Contributions/Longhair that there'd be a great essay here to explain what you're looking for. Guess not... Tom Ruen 04:23, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[REPLY]:A lot of articles containing just a primary source usually serve to promote the article in a biased manner. Criticisms for example are rarely (if ever) included if the only source provided is the subject's own website. It's a good thing to aim for external sources from as many external (reliable) sources as we can muster to give articles some balance. Newspapers may very well be a good source of information where online content is lacking. All too often we easily fall into the trap of "if it aint found at Google, it doesn't exist". Hope this help to explain my usage of the {{primarysources}} template. -- Longhair\talk 04:25, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Primary Sources / Notability

Hi Longhair, you've added these tags to one of mine articles. I think, it is a good idea to add some sources. My problem is, that it is quite tricky for a website. Do you have an idea, how it can be done?

The website skipperguide is known especially in Germany. Many german cruisers know it, and it is the first site of its kind, at least in Germany. Do you think, it is enough notability? How can the notability be prooved formally?

I only know, that it was mentioned last time in "Sailing Journal", a german sailing magazine and was discussed in various german newsgroups.

I wish you a happy new year! --Lowfly 13:36, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I've added some sources to the SkipperGuide-Article, but I have no idea, if it is sufficient. What do you think? --Lowfly 23:16, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tassie

Just to let you know that a few of us crazy perthites are helping chuq to convert WP Hobart to WP Tasmania - would you see any issue arising from enlarging hobart - or changing the focus of the project? In case we fall into a hole (mining shaft) in the process I have alerted a number of admins who I have had interactions with re tassie arts - to forewarn so to speak. Hope you can let me know before we start...SatuSuro 01:57, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for answering the important messages- and ignoring the others - It is very much appreciated! may you have a great new year! SatuSuro 02:05, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

I support this block - I just came on becaseu I realized I drafted the mentoring plan. I was suprised to find the edits he had made already. --Trödel 04:12, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

I suggest you just let him blank his page for now and ignore his comments for a bit. It doesn't hurt to let things sit that way - any admin worth his salt will checkthe history. --Trödel 04:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

I cocked up my redirect of Abecedary, went back to fix it and couldn't - saw you'd got there already. You're quick! Thanks - but it's not working! Have I got into some kind of unintentional edit conflict/whatever the Wikiterm is with you? And could you fix (again) as I don't know how - I keep typing in the correct formula but it doesn't seem to want to accept it. Newbies, eh? Jasper33 01:10, 30 December 2006 (UTC)?

Hmm, midnight gremlins, maybe - wasn't working for about five minutes or so, but is here too now. Weird. Why would that be? Anyways, sorry to bother you. Cheers Jasper33 01:20, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Low-level assessment

Where there's no risk of the page exceeding Start-class, where do you normally draw the line between Stub and Start? I'm keen to help shrink the number of unclassified articles on suburbs and towns, but want to make sure my classifications are in line with those that have already been determined. Orderinchaos78 06:06, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Arabic Holocaust article

Thnaks for that. I had a look at the Arabic article, and the words in Roman script and the numerals give a reasonable indication of the ground covered. This suggests that the article is not too bad, although there appears to be a (proportionately) large section on Holocaust denialists, which one would need to see translated to form an opinion about. There is nothing in the Farsi article which can be used to assess its content - it is very short.

Question: does the Wikimedia foundation exercise any kind of watch over the content of the non-English Wikipedias? How do we know that some of them are not full of nationalist mythologies that all editors in a particular language happen to subscribe to? If the Arabic or Farsi articles said that the Holocaust never happened, whose resposnibility would this be? Adam 07:55, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Time Quartet

I see you've tagged Time Quartet as needing Template:Infobox Book. This is not an appropriate infobox for the article, as it is about a book series, and shoving all the info from four novels into that box would be problematic to say the least. I find there is a Template:Book Series infobox, but I can't make head or tails of the syntax, and it seems to have been used almost exclusively for French series. Any thoughts? I found a use of it on Dragonlance: The New Adventures that's at least comprehensible, if not especially informative. I'll use that for now, but if there are going to be articles about book series, I think someone needs to address the infobox issue for them. Regards, and Happy New Year! [edit] Stubs

Hi we at WP WA had an interesting tete a tete this am with our mate grutness so I posted some warnings at the state talk pages - I do hope that dosnt costitute aggravation! SatuSuro 02:36, 2 January 2007 (UTC) I am about to go get a haircut (great stuff for a baldie like me) I am wondering whether later in the day we have a conversation about whether we put up a group of stubs for the three state projects at once - or do you think we are sufficiently covered for the moment? [edit] Assessments

I don't IRC any more, as I don't have a cloak, and don't know how to ask for one, and can't be bothered anyhow since I don't use IRC any more. How's that for circular reasoning?

I can gmail chat if you have a gmail account. Otherwise email. Heck, I can even phone you if you want. Hesperian 03:03, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability for The Onion Cellar

I made some changes to article. Fixed some typos, grammar, and vocabulary and also expanded both the article proper and the list of external links. Does this make the article solid enough to warrant removing the Notability warning? Interlingua talk email 04:12, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability for Caroline Kaufer

Thanks for the feedback on the Onion Cellar. I've also made some changes, this time to an article I started. I've expanded it a bit, and added what I think will qualify as "multiple independent published sources" on the life and philanthropy of Kaufer. I've also added some comments to the Dicussion page. Please let me know if this is sufficient to warrant removing the Notability warning. If not, what more can be done. Thanks. Interlingua talk email 05:05, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

It appears these two users have been created with the sole intention of vandalising. The Yarralumla, Australian Capital Territory article (currently featured on Main Page) was indirectly vandalised because of this. Requesting a short block.JeremyTalk 01:10, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Category Renaming

Inspired by your example with Template:Sunraysia, I am working on a similar nav box for the Riverina. This has lead me to consider the future of Category:Towns in the Riverina. At the time I created the category I was ignorant of Wikiprojects and their role and established the category without any discussion or consideration of how it would sit in WP:AUSTPLACES. The navbox would remove any justification for the category as it stands.

The category, however could still be useful if renamed, perhaps, Category:Riverina and acted as a category for all Riverina related articles. This could then be used in the future, should interest be there, as a base for a Riverina wikiproject. My question is: Is it feasible (or desirable) to rename this category and if so what is the best way to go about it?

There is an identical problem with Category:Towns in Berrigan Shire.--Mattinbgn 03:43, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Billy Blaze AfD

Longhair, this nominator has a history of bad faith AfD's designed solely to attack the non American wrestling database. I can't believe you would allow this to happen whether the nomination is valid or not. There's a principle that has to be followed here - otherwise known troublemakers will wreck Wikipedia. The line has to be drawn somewhere. If you look at the contributions of the user concerned, all of them (bar a single edit) have attacked Australian wrestling and wrestlers. Not only that - this article was never prodded, which I understand is the correct procedure unless a speedy delete has been applied for (which in this case it hasn't). The originator should be given the chance to improve the article. This chance has never been given - but then the nominating user has a history of that. He did the same to me so why aren't you telling him the same message??? He gave me the same message and removed my tags, why can't I so the same? Is it because he is more inferior of a plebian like me and because he has royal blood that you must give him special consideration? [edit] Wikipedia Main Page.

Hi, Longhair. I have some questions about the Main Page of Wikipedia. As I clicked on the Wikipedia(The Free Encyclopedia), it shows everything that happens in the World (like Saddam Hussein was executed on Dec 30, 06) that is kinds of newspaper stuffs. So, Does Main page of Wikipedia have Picture, Person of each days? I think there are more important things on Main Page. That's my big question about Wikipedia Main Page. Could you please explain to me about the page that I'm mentioning later in my user page? Best Regards. Daniel5127 <Talk> 04:23, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Deletion summaries

Re your message: Sorry about the delay in responding, but your comment got me thinking some more. I decided that instead of using the Firefox extension where I'd have to install and maintain it on my two computers, I'd pull out my rusty JavaScript skills and cobble together something that adds a pop-up menu to the Confirm Delete page that automatically puts in a properly formatted reason. Looks like it's working pretty good. Thanks again for nudging me. =) -- Gogo Dodo 05:51, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Tiffanylimos.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Tiffanylimos.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 22:18, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Anitacobbypagaentwin.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Anitacobbypagaentwin.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:36, 11 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 23:36, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wangaratta

G'day Longhair. Just to clkarify as you deleted some prior stuff; I've expanded a piece on Wangaratta's Transport; viz; the Wang to Whitfield narrow gauge railway. Because of its historical connection with the USA locomotives imported for use on that first Victorian narrow gauge line, I've linked the Wang sub-section to Puffing Billy. Hope you don't regard this as advertising for the PBR; rather this is where the now famous Puffing Billy was born or originated. See the problem? I think the reference gives a new dimension to Wang's history and connections. Certainly, a good cross reference for anyone doing a local history research project. What do y' reckon? [edit] Ages of consent in Australia and Oceania

Hi, I've removed the call for citation tag you inserted in this article. You may not be aware that every act is referenced inline. In all of the Ages of consent in... articles each country is treated as a separate mini-article, each has their own citations, further reading section and footnotes if necessary. It's been done this way as if they were all grouped together at the bottom it would be a huge mess of footnotes and be harder for readers to find in context. (see the talk page). I'm also interested in the "Start-class" rating. How was that rating arrived at? The rating scale says...

"Substantial/major editing is needed, most material for a complete article needs to be added. This article usually isn't even good enough for a cleanup tag: it still needs to be built."

That's hardly the position of the page in question. It's has a legal reference for every act of legislation cited. A discussion of each situation, an introduction that puts the entire page in context and a clear and consistent style through out. Could you expand on this rating scale? --Monotonehell 11:26, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Cheers, I thought you may have misjudged in haste ;) --Monotonehell 11:46, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
The discussions are mostly on the original main article for that group of articles - Age of consent all the subpages were forked from there when that article became too large and unwieldy. Originally the sub pages were called "Age of consent - region" but some disruptive editor grabbed hold of the North American one and caused havoc through moving and renaming, so the "AgeS of..." names were adopted as a compromise. These articles have a long history lol. --Monotonehell 11:54, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More Punk Boi 8

If you haven't noticed, I removed him from being an advocate over a case, left clear guidance on his Mentor page, and communicated briefly with him on this topic. --Trödel 19:30, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, Longhair, I think it is inevitable that we are going to have to face the probability of lengthy blocks and even a ban. I was hopeful that mentoring might work but the more time the passes and the more he violates his agreement, I become convinced that it's just not going to work. Since his warning yesterday about editing in WP, he has made at least six WP edits, including assigning himself another mediation case. He has also now found the Wiki En mailing list... Sarah 11:43, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

After looking closely at the last week of Nathan's contributions, I've blocked him for 3 days. If anyone wants to overturn the block, they are welcome to but I think we need to start cracking down on him when he violates his agreement because it's quite clear he isn't taking his promises seriously. Sarah 12:22, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliment on my talk page! - I've increased the block to a week and left an explanation for him on his talk page. --Trödel 15:43, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Taronga Zoo

Hellow there. I regraded this article down to "start" since there were no references and it strikes me as not much more than a list. Certainly without the list is it much more than start or even stub? Anyway, happy to discuss and I am open to being convinced otherwise. regards --Merbabu 03:44, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bunbury based itinerant spots editing

On holiday I almost threwup in disgust at the way our local newspaper in perth wrote up on a single reversion.... on a controversial subject! Their report should be a lame reporting award for journos misinterprting poor old wikipedia... I noticed saomehwere on my watchlist you'd cleand up the MHHS artice (MUndaring and Hills Historical Society) - funny - I've noticed recently a number of conversations that HS are not notable and should be absorbed into larger articles... ho hum, the evoluction of Afd as a mthod and WP N and WP V - all great stuff.. but its good to be away from it all - back soon SatuSuro 11:30, 24 January 2007 (UTC) I'm on a limited time if I dont find it - try orderinchaos for it - Inside Covr this am SatuSuro 11:42, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Legal request

Would you be able to locate any legal documents relating to a multiple murder which occured in Ceres, Victoria some time ago, mid 90's if I recall correctly? I think the name of the family was Wettenhall, and they were involved in farming (perhaps wool?) activities on their farm. If any more info is needed, feel free to ask. It'd be great if you could source anything on this. There doesn't appear to be much information online about the case unfortunately. -- Longhair\talk 12:45, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

I can certainly give it a try. Wettenhall is the name of the victims? --bainer (talk) 12:48, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes. The spelling may be slightly off, but it's a popular name in Geelong, just that my memory is fading somewhat. It received a lot of press at the time. A family of three were killed if my memory serves me correctly. Thanks a million :) -- Longhair\talk 12:50, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Their farm had a unique name, which I forget also, but there wasn't many cases of this type in Geelong's criminal history, so if there's anything about, it'd be easy to spot. Come to think of it, late 80's might be closer to the mark, or very early 90's -- Longhair\talk 12:51, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Stanbury. I did a newspaper search since I wasn't getting anything useful just with "Wettenhall", and there was a piece in the 'Tiser about the 14th anniversary of the murders just a couple of weeks ago, which has the name of the suspect (Walton) which is extremely useful. It actually went to trial, so there could be some material about, although the guy was acquitted so it won't necessarily be available easily. --bainer (talk) 12:59, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, the acquittal comes as news to me. I knew the defendant, but only as a passing aquantaince (friends of friends etc), but never heard the end of the story. How does Stanbury fit in? I might look at the 'tiser when I'm down home next week. -- Longhair\talk 13:02, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
It must have been a large spread, the article's in about 7 parts in the database and it's hard to follow it. It's all in the January 10 edition this year. Turns out I misunderstood one part, the guy hanged himself in his prison cell before it got to trial. I doubt then that there are any publicly available documents from the case that they prepared. However there was a coroner's inquest so there may be documents from that. The guy's full name was Wayne Walton, by the way, and Stanbury was the name of the farm, that seems to be where the murders happened. --bainer (talk) 13:12, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Now you're on the mark. I knew of the hanging, which is why the acquittal came as a surprise... If you do manage to find anything worth a read online, I'd appreciate if you could email it over to me. If not, I'll visit the Addy next week and see what I can uncover. If I make the next Meetup, I owe you a beer :) -- Longhair\talk 13:15, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
I found one article from The Age, from about 1993, and emailed that. When you're in Geelong, try going to the Coroner's office, they work out of the Magistrates' Court down there in Geelong, right next to the station. You might be able to get a copy of the findings in that inquest, that would be gold in terms of source material. --bainer (talk) 13:30, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] West Australian article

(Basically what Satu said plus) The West don't believe in the internet, but I've obtained a dead wood copy (at 10:30pm at a service station!) and photographed it. (Removed after having a better idea) Have typed article and sent by email. If you want the photograph feel free to reply and I can send that to you. Orderinchaos78 13:48, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

No worries. I used to work in IT and after that in the media so my typing speed (especially straight from a print source) got very good very quickly :) It was definitely an interesting read. To be fair to Mr Martin, I doubt he has any control over the wider paper's editorial policy and he tends to go for the lighter side of any situation, person, company or whatever regardless of affiliation - a bit like Bennett's Beat in the old Sunday Times Orderinchaos78 14:11, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
I really should get a scanner. :P Certainly beats photographing things (especially maps) Orderinchaos78 14:37, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Assessments

Hi Longhair. Good to see that we're starting to make a dent into our un-assessed WP:AUS articles after your post to AWNB. Have you had any more thought on sub-project assessments whilst I've been away? I'm keen to see this introduced, to reduce duplication among projects.--cj | talk 21:31, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Ah, I heard about the downpours in SA and Victoria. I've had my own problems with snow (finally! also – I was beginning to think I'd be home before it finally fell in any significant quantity). I am very interested in helping out, and should be available to do so until at least mid-February, so drop me a note when you're ready. I'll be focusing on tagging/assessments in the mean time, as soon as I've finished catching up on the last few weeks.--cj | talk 22:05, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
