Talk:Long Tan

I was very familiar with this area in that my rifle company, Charlie Company, 4th Battalion, 39th Infantry (9th Infantry Division) was assigned just to the Northwest (same grid square, just east of Long Thanh on highway QL 15) of this location at a French rubber plantation, Ap Binh Son. We encountered a VC battalion-sized unit in the area (gathering food from the local Vietnamese villagers who were VC sympathizers and who worked for the French plantation owneres) for their unit from the hamlet (Ap Binh Son) and surprised them just before the Tet counteroffensive in 1968. Australian units were still operating in that area from their base in Vung Tau. Indeed, we exchanged officers with them and I had an Australian lieutenant as a platoon leader for about a month. Great troops! Armand 20:41, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Armand G De Cesare
