Loni Ackerman

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Loni Ackerman (born April 10, 1949) is an American Broadway musical theatre performer and cabaret singer.

Born in New York City, she made her Broadway debut in George M! in 1968, then replaced Bernadette Peters in the hit off-Broadway production of Dames at Sea.

In 1971, Ackerman was cast in the revival of No, No Nanette as one of the three gold diggers chasing the title character's guardian. Problems arose backstage when fellow cast members suspected she was consorting with and receiving special favors from the producer, her mother Cyma Rubin, to the detriment of the show. Whatever went on behind-the-scenes failed to affect the production, which proved to be a critical and commercial smash hit.

Ackerman's additional Broadway credits include another major success, The Magic Show with Doug Henning, the shortlived So Long, 174th Street, and the title role in Evita.

Largely inactive in recent years, Ackerman occasionally performs her act of 1930s and 40s standards in Manhattan cabarets.
