[edit] Barrio Longo 13
Barrio Longo 13 is the oldest and biggest gang in Long Beach, California, composed of Hispanics (mostly Mexicans) formed in the late 1940s which joined the SUR 13 membership in the early 1970s. Active members vary in age from the early teens to their late 30s.
The name LONGO is derived from "LONG" (Long Beach). It is a shortening of the city name which incorporated only the first part of the name "LONG" with the addition of "O" (masculine Spanish suffix ending) -thereby eliminating the BEACH (B*tch) feminine sounding at the end of the word.
[edit] Identification
Members may be identified by their cholo look, and tattoos that include the words Longo, ESL13, WSL13, or NSL13. The letters X3 and 13 identify wearers as Sureños with the Mighty SUR 13, and show that they are part of the Southern California gang structure. Many members have tattoos of the phrase Harbor Area, a subdivision of the Los Angeles County gang area. However, not all gang members with Harbor Area tattoos are from LONGO 13, because this designation is also used by other gangs such as WILMAS, TORRANCE 13, SAN PEDRO (SAN PIPAS) 13, HARBOR CITY, Carson 13 and DOMINGUEZ VARRIO 13.
Longo members also use symbols and colors to identify themselves. During the 1980s, Longo members used the logo of Western Exterminator Pest Control, a cartoon figure with sunglasses and a top hat holding a wooden hammer behind his back. The image implied that the gang's rivals were pests to be eliminated (TRG members are referred to derogatorily as "roaches", Insane Crips as Insects , Longos as "Chongos", just as Crips are "crabs" and bloods are slobs). The Playboys clique did not use the exterminator logo, but instead used the Playboy bunny logo.
The colors of the Longeros are black and gray, and members often wear Oakland Raiders football team clothing. Some Longeros wear blue and gray to show their Sureño affiliation.

Also there is a sub-clique in Chula Vista, California known as the "Brandywine Locos" but they are more of an independent gang that was started by Longo. The Longo 13 gangs are known to have sets in Tijuana, Mexico, Washington, and Bakersfield
[edit] Gang injunction
In 2002 the Los Angeles County Superior Court granted a permanent injunction against the East Side Longo13 street gang. This injunction prohibits 23 of the gang's most active members from participating in certain activities in two target areas. The injunction prohibits ESL13 gang members from congregating in public, drinking in public, possessing weapons, using hand signs, participating in "nuisance behavior" and they must abide by all laws in these areas.
In 2004 an injunction was granted to the City of Long Beach prohibiting activity of named or known members of the West Side Longo13 within a certain defined geographic area. The gang injunction mirrors similar injunctions granted in California, and throughout the United States. Gang injunctions are controversial because they prohibit gang members from gathering in public, in certain circumstances. Amendment I of the United States Constitution provides that, "Congress shall make no law ... prohibiting ... the right of the people peaceably to assemble." The injunction against the West Side Longo13 has been used, and continues to be used, to successfully police and prosecute its members.
[edit] History
The true story of this gang is not exactly known, there are Veteranos (OG's)that are in their 60's and claim that it existed back in the 40's composed of pachucos. They didn't see that much of the Zoot Suit Riots since the riots were mostly in Los Angeles and the gang was really small, Long Beach traces its gang violence to next-door Los Angeles. Other cities in the shadow of the metropolis - Artesia, Downey, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Norwalk and Paramount also saw L.A.'s gangs spread into their communities in the 1960s and 1970s. By the 1950s, Hispanic gangs began to spread throughout the county, to cities such as Long Beach, Downey and Paramount. Drive-by shootings were reported as early as the 1960s.By the early 1960s the original Longo 13 gang grew enough to be split geographically and be named depending where they were established. They were spread in 3 pieces, the EAST SIDE LONGO 13, WEST SIDE LONGO 13, and NORTH SIDE LONGO 13. The West Side Longo claimed territory west of the Los Angeles River, and the East Side Longo claimed the rest. Eventually, the North Side Longo took a portion of North Long Beach. Major intersections and housing sections became the gangs' boundaries.
[edit] Rivals
All gangs that are composed of Blacks or Asians are considered enemies. In the 80's and 90's there was a major street war against Crips and Asian gangs, with the main one being the Long Beach TRG (Tiny Raskal Gang), which reportedly consists of Cambodians. It was in October 1989 that a carload of TRG gangbangers pulled alongside another filled with Hispanics, most of them East Side Longos, near Cherry Avenue and Anaheim Street in the area where both groups claimed territory. The people in the two cars traded insults and rude gestures. It was reportedly then that the Cambodians pulled guns, opened fire and killed a 16 year old ESLX3 member.[citation needed]
Other rival gangs include the Insane Crips , Rolling 20 Crips, Asian Boyz, Satanas, and the West Coast Crips. In general, they don't have problems with other Chicano gangs, but there has been problems against the Dominguez Varrio 13 and the 18th Street gang. Before they had a problem among each other during the 'West vs. East' debacle, but they once again called a truce to unite and fight off Crips and Asian-American gangs. They are now allied with all Harbor Area gangs including Wilmas 13, Torrance 13, and Rancho San Pedro 13.
