From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Long Lake Camp for the Arts is a U.S. summer camp concentrating on performing and fine arts for children ages 10 to 16. The camp encourages its participants to immerse themselves in both the performing and fine arts. Campers have a set schedule during the day totally based on what each individual wants to do. Long Lake campers choose what they want to do in drama, dance, music, fine arts, film, and circus concentrating on what they like best and at other times explore all else that this unique program has to offer.
The campus is located in the Adirondack Mountains of New York state, situated along the shores of a Long Lake.
[edit] Bunks
A former Private Estate with substantial buildings and facilities, campers live in converted "Estate Type" houses modernized for todays use. The youngest girls live in Stonehouse with 9-10 year olds girls downstairs and 11-12 year old girls upstairs. As they get older (13-14) girls move into Lakeside,a beautiful new summer home set along the shore of long lake too with huge wrap around porches and windows. 14 year olds live in Sunrise, and finally 15 and 16 year old girls live in the most formidable building the Mainhouse. Mainhouse is special, not only because it is the bunk that girls look forward to living in from the time the first attend camp as little girls, but also because they gain much more independence, as in Mainhouse, there are several rooms of a few girls, without counselors living in their rooms with them. the two or three Mainhouse counselors live in MH6 by themselves, but are of course always available if the girls need them.
There are six large cabins for boys called "Hermitages' or affectionately called "Herms". Her 1 houses 10-11 year olds, up to Herm 6 which houses 16 year olds.
There is an ongoing friendly rivalry between Mainhouse and Herm 6, who are the CITs and oldest campers. Both MH and H6 attempt to raid each other at least a few times over the summer, but there has yet to be a successful MH raid by Herm 6, yet. Mainhouse, wich is connected to the main office is very hard to raid because it is on the second floor, and the Mainhouse girls are very good defenders from raids. The Mainhouse girls are also very good raiders, flawlessly planning their raids weeks in advance, down to every detail, so that on the night of the raid each job as been assigned and nothing has been forgotten. There are lookouts, and door-openers, toilet paper-ers, and many other jobs. When the MH girls do a raid, they plan it so well that they do not even speak once they leave their rooms in the middle of the night.
During the summer of 2006, the Mainhouse girls awoke to what appeared to be that they had been raided. There was baby powder all over the floors of the hallways, and the MH7/5 bathroom was covered in shaving cream, toothpaste, chocolate and one other unknown substance. Written on the big mirror in the hall was the word WAR, written in masking tape. It seemed as though, that for the first time ever, Mainhouse had been raided. That same morning, Herm 6 awoke to what seemed to be the same fate. WAR was also written in their bunk, and there was the same standard raid mess of shaving cream, toothpaste, toilet paper, string etc. Also found in the mess was an empty bottle of Barbeque sauce, and bbq sauce all over their front porch. Of course the boys immediately suspected the Mainhouse girls, but one raid staple was uncharacteristically missing, the MH girls trademark, markered Tampons in the sink. When the boys saw the girls that morning in the dining hall, the were surprised to hear that they too had been raided. It was quite a mystery...who had successfully raided both Mainhouse and Herm 6 all in one night without being caught? the task seemed impossible.
