The Lone Star Series is an annual Major League Baseball contest featuring Texas' two major league franchises, the Texas Rangers of the American League and the Houston Astros of the National League. It is an outgrowth of the "natural rivalry" established by MLB as part of interleague play. The series winner is awarded the "Silver Boot."

Both teams have won the series three times each. However, the Astros have held a better overall record since the establishment of the Silver Boot and have reached the postseason a greater number of times.

[edit] Added Interest

  • Many fans believe that the 2007 series will have an added interest. The Rangers unsuccessfully attempted to acquire Astros ace Roy Oswalt before the trade deadline in 2006. Later, it was made known that the Astros were never interested in trading Roy Oswalt. The Astros have also signed Carlos Lee, who played the final months of the 2006 season with the Rangers.
