Londinivm

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Londinivm is a free role-playing game with more than 25000[1] registered players, hosted by Jolt Online Gaming. The game has been running since 2004.

On an average day about 150 Players are online at a time. Compared to other massively multiplayer online role-playing games, it takes less time to learn and progress as one or two logins a day are enough and normally take just a few minutes.

You play as a citizen of Roman Londinivm, interacting with fellow citizens and developing your character.

[edit] Features

The game is played through any web browser (see below), and does not need any installation; your game can be accessed from any location. The game is predominantly text based, although some static graphics are included in the web pages.

You start as an unskilled player, choosing one of 8 classes. You have three basic attributes, strength and speed being used in combat, and knowledge being useful later on. You also have skills. Mining, smelting and forging are used to develop weapons. Fishing and cooking are used to produce food. Resources created from these skills are sold to provide the money for trade, with employment or land ownership providing additional income.

[edit] Game detail

A key element of the game is combat, which provides experience points to develop your character. The trading elements of the game are used to provide skills or money to buy or make better weapons or armour. The higher the level of your opponent the more experience you get, but face an increased risk of losing hit points. Hits points are gained when raising level (through using upgrade points), and damage can be healed by paying for it, getting it free from your tribe, or is recovered every two hours. Any player can attack any other, so being killed and resurrected is common.

In addition to the money constraint, players expend (quarter-hourly increase of 3) units of energy to either work for resources or fight other players to build up experience. The energy increases until a player has the maximum of 150 energies.

As your character develops, your score increases. You can also create or join tribes to aid each other in commerce and war. Any resource, property or money can be donated to another player, or the tribe, allowing tribe members to develop faster than on their own. A players score adds to the score of the tribe, which then compete for ranking.

Players get 25 skill upgrades, and 10 training combat opportunities each day which they can use to increase their fighting abilities. This encourages the player to log in daily as these are not carried over to subsequent days; a small amount of time per day is more beneficial than a single long weekly log in. There is also internal mail, chat and forum capability to encourage players to build up friendships.

[edit] Limitations

The player does not need to interact very much, or very quickly; selecting an action and waiting for the outcome. You pick a fight, and see the results of each blow calculated from your combat statistics. The fight is resolved without further player intervention. Fast reaction times are not required, which may put off some players.

The game runs on MS Internet explorer v6 and on Firefox v1.5, other browsers / versions are unknown. There are help pages that work on MSIEv6, but not Firefox. Much of this help is reproduced on the Londinivm wiki, which runs on a MediaWiki.
