Lomas Verdes is a mid-class neighborhood located in the county of Naucalpan de Juárez, in the state of Mexico. This urban development was founded in the later 60´s and is located close to the in 1957 founded Ciudad Satélite. Lomas Verdes means "Green Hills" in Spanish, due to the original lands had a set of smooth hills covered with green grass and other wild vegetation.
The neighborhood is formed by several demarcations: La Alteña I, II and III, La Soledad, and the sections I, II, III, IV, V and the now in construction sección VI. Lomas Verdes limits to the north with the county of Atizapán de Zaragoza, to the south and the west with others neighborhoods of Naucalpan, and to the east with the ancient and colonial town of Santa Cruz del Monte.
After its foundation Lomas Verdes was a so called "dormitory neighborhood", because the majority of the unhabitants must drive to México City (7 miles far away) in order to work, then at the end of the working day, the people just came back to rest and to sleep. Twenty years after the foundation, there are a strong commercial and services orientated development in the zone, therefore the neighborhood is not anymore called a "dormitory".
The most important in- and way out of this urban concentration is the Súper Avenida Lomas Verdes, which connects the neighborhood with the Periferico that leads the traffic direct into the heart of Mexico City. As all latinamerican urban developments the increasing growth of the population and the unplanned urban strategy overwhelmed completely the infraestructure and now the traffic jams, accidents, air pollution and caothic expansion, have reduced drastically the quality of the life of the unhabitants.
