Loggieville, New Brunswick
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Loggieville is a former village of Northumberland County, New Brunswick, now forming a part of the city of Miramichi. It is the part of Miramichi furthest downstream, being at the point on the south shore where the estuary of the Miramichi River broadens out to form Miramichi Bay.
Settled by the Scottish and English, it also had a long time Acadian and Irish element. It was well known for fielding softball teams, some going to play at international levels.
Fishing and fish packing were prominent industries for many years. It is quite picturesque along the river, with several churches and fine old homes shaded by tall hardwoods.
The town was named after the Loggie family, several of whom were prominent merchants.
