The JPL license (Jet Propulsion License) expressly does NOT allow for the use of the NASA logo.

I have asked for permission to use it on wikipedia, and for republishing bound to the wikipedia articles. GerardM 08:56, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use

AFAIK (& I am not a lawyer) This image is not copyrighted & hence can't be fair use.

When NASA says you need their permission to use it, they are referring to laws regarding the use of official government emblems & logos, not copyright law. These laws do not prohibit the reproduction of the emblem/logo; rather, they prohibit uses which might give the impression that the person using them is an official of or is endorsed by the agency. So long as the image/emblem is not used in that manner, legally things are fine, i think. Also, since this would be a US law, unlike copyright law it does not apply outside the US so easily (although, it is likely that most countries provide some protection for the logos/emblems of foreign governments similar to that they provide for their own.) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 137.111.13.34 (talkcontribs) 10:48, 11 August 2005.
