Lodging.com, part of Cendant's Travel Distribution Services division, promotes negotiated and Galileo CRS accommodations online through owned and affiliate websites. In total, their inventory is comprised of 60,000+ hotels and other types of lodging.
Lodging.com was established in 1995 as Travelbase, an online ski guide. Shifting to online hotel reservations in 1997, the company grew its independent brand until Cendant acquired the .com in 2002.
Lodging.com is notable as an early developer of a hotel affiliate program. In these revenue-sharing programs, third party websites resell Lodging.com hotel room inventory in exchange for a commission. Presently, thousands of sites participate in the Lodging.com affiliate program.
Lodging.com no longer exists as an independent web site. As of July 2006, when users visit the site they are forwarded to Orbitz.
