Talk:Lockheed Ventura
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have removed the section "116 were acquired by the RNZAF, and were used extensively in the Solomon Islands. Initially, air crews and ground staff disliked the Ventura, preferring the B-25 Mitchell; due to accidents and enemy action, 40 of the 116 were destroyed by the wars end", as this is clearly wrong, the RNZAF had 139 - plus Harpoons - not 116. The RNZAF never used the Mitchell, (In the RNZAF the Venturer replaced the Hudson: the RNZAF were disappointed, but because they had wanted Liberators not Mitchells). I suspect this passage was garbled and possibly referred to the RAAF and have restored it as such, but even this would give no explanation for the 116 - um, could someone help out? (the RNZAF service is covered in a separate para under). Cheers :-)
