[edit] Newcastle incorrectly linked
The link to Newcastle actually leads to greater Newcastle (pop. 500,000, 4 LGAs) rather than Newcastle City Council (pop. 145,000). Seeing as this pages is dedicated to LGAs and that Newcastle City Council has no page perhaps creating a new page about the Newcastle City Council may be a more correct approach?

[edit] Bogan Shire Link Issues
The Link to Bogan Shire goes to a page discussing the insult (ie westie.) I would fix it myself however, due to my wiki inexperience, I'm not sure I wouldn't break it ;-) Mdgr 23:14, 01 Feb 2006
- Changed it from Bogan to Bogan Shire. Nurg 20:37, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Merger
- Strongly oppose merger to Cities of NSW article. Whoever proposed merger should have initiated discussion iwth rationale.--A Y Arktos\talk 00:53, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Merger proposed in April [1] - no discussion or action - will remove--A Y Arktos\talk 00:54, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
My appologies. I proposed the merger because Cities of New South Wales was a rather unorganized collection of information. I thought merging the good stuff into this article would be a way to clean it up, but it doesn't seem that anyone else thought so. I should have chased up a decision myself. Thanks for resolving it. [edit] Lord Howe Island
My understanding was that Lord Howe Island was also a local government authority (governed by an Island Board) which receives grants and funding from the State Government in the same way as any other Council in New South Wales. Surely this should be included in the list. Skinsmoke 00:21, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Shires and towns with the same name
I have created an additional page for Berrigan Shire and taken the information and info box that was in the Berrigan town page. Two points:
- In this instance Berrigan town is only one of four major localities in the Berrigan Shire and therefore including Shire-wide infomation on that page is potentially misleading (note: I had to revert an edit that substituted the town population for the shire population in the shire info box).
- Is there a policy or standard that covers separate pages for towns and shires of the same name (or cities (municipal) and cities (urban areas); i.e. Melbourne & City of Melbourne)?

- There are a number of others - for example Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Gundagai, New South Wales, Temora ... No policy or guideline that I am aware of. You may get more discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australian places--Golden Wattle talk 09:32, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- I have moved Berrigan Shire to Berrigan Shire Council, anticipating that Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australian places will agree that these articles be named after their official names (in NSW on the basis of names recognised by the New South Wales Department of Local Government)--Grahamec 08:08, 4 November 2006 (UTC) I have now updated the list at Local Government Areas of New South Wales to show the correct names.--Grahamec 01:06, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
