Lock, Shock, and Barrel were the fictional characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas. The children were the henchmen of Oogie Boogie. All three appear to be trick-or-treaters, and Lock, Shock, and Barrel are dressed as a Devil, a witch, and a skeleton respectively. Their faces look nearly identical to their masks. Lock was voiced by Paul Reubens and Jess Harnell. Shock was voiced by Catherine O'Hara, and by Kath Soucie in the video game spinoffs. Barrel was voiced by Danny Elfman, Dee Bradley Baker, and Jeff Bennett. Their names are a play on the phrase, "Lock, Stock, and Barrel."

[edit] The Nightmare Before Christmas

Jack Skellington had sent out Lock, Shock, and Barrel to capture Santa Claus (or Sandy Claws as the residents of Halloween Town call him). In their treehouse, they made a plan to capture Sandy (while singing 'Kidnap The Sandy Claws') but accidentally capture the Easter Bunny, only later successfully capturing Sandy Claws. The three plan to use Sandy Claws as food for Oogie. They always seem to be bickering about something. They travel in a walking bathtub that is usually driven by Barrel. The trio are not necessarily as bad as their reputation; they admit that even though they enjoy their job, they only do it to stay on Oogie's good side. They show an equal amount of loyalty to Jack as well. When Oogie hasn't got a job for them, they just spend their time making playful mischief.

[edit] Characters

  • Lock: Dressed as a devil, often tries to act as leader and has the most lines. His red hair spirals in front like devil's horns. His tail is actually connected to his body. His "plans" to kidnap "Sandy Claws" are the most violent and ineffective.
  • Shock: Dressed as a witch, has wiry hair, frequently calls her two cohorts "dumb" and "stupid" (though Barrel insists otherwise, claiming "[He's] not the dumb one".) Her "plans" do, however, merit the most credit.
  • Barrel: Dressed as a skeleton, doesn't speak as often as the other two, is the smallest, and is often the target of Lock and Shock's pranks. He seemingly doesn't mind them, however, and gets even with them one way or another. He is annoyed with Shock saying that he's dumb. He is often seen with a lollipop clasped in his hand.

[edit] The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Pumpkin King

In The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Pumpkin King, a sort of prequel to the movie, Oogie Boogie sends Lock, Shock, and Barrel out to nab this new "Pumpkin King", but come back with Sally instead. Throughout the game, they are behind most of the ruckus going on around town, from poisoning the acid pools to drive the leeches crazy, from knocking down the town's street lamps to luring Jack into death traps to helping Oogie in the final battle.

[edit] The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge

In The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge, when Jack leaves Halloween Town, Lock, Shock, and Barrel decided to revive Oogie from his death. In the game, Jack will encounter the three one by one. In chapter 15, the threesome tried to stop Jack, but failed.

[edit] Kingdom Hearts

In Kingdom Hearts, after hearing Jack speak of a heart that can control the Heartless, Oogie sent the three out to steal the heart as his plan to take over Halloween Town. After the three were defeated by Sora, Donald, and Goofy, they made a confession that Oogie sent them out.

[edit] Kingdom Hearts II

In Kingdom Hearts II, Lock, Shock, and Barrel start off working as Doctor Finklestein's assistants, though were promised the Experiment would be theirs to boss around. The three would revert to their old ways soon enough when they encountered Maleficent, who revived Oogie Boogie for them. While she and Oogie went off to kidnap Santa Claus, Maleficent gives the trio the use of the Prison Keeper Heartless to hold off Sora and company. The monster kept the children in a cage underneath its body, but swallowed one of them to act as its "pilot." Under Lock's control, the monster's arms turned red and it used fire magic. Under Shock's control, the monster's arms turned dark purple and it ascended into the sky and rained magic bolts down on the party. Under Barrel's control, the monster's arms turned green and it used physical attacks like swinging the cage and trying to eat Sora. Toward the end of the fight, the monster swallowed all three of them, turning its arms black and causing it to go out of control, attacking Sora and party with its full repertoire. After it was defeated, the trio ran off while they, unintentionally, revealed Oogie's return.

In the second visit, the three are accused of stealing presents after they enter Santa's workshop and are caught looking through gifts. Sora, Jack Skellington and others have to fight these mischievous rascals by knocking them unconscious and putting them in boxes. In the end, the three claim that they didn't steal the presents, as they regarded Christmas toys as lame and stupid, and it's discovered that it was actually Doctor Finklestein's Experiment. They also cause mischief as obstacles in the Making Presents mini game, before and after the fight with the Experiment.
