[edit] History
The community is supposedly a suburb of Philadelphia and is modeled after the actual Chestnut Hill section of the city. It is said to be the county seat of Llantano County and located on the Llantano River, across from Pine Valley, home of All My Children. Some people speculate that Llanview and Pine Valley stand in for Allentown & Bethleham, since those cities are adjacent to one another and form a satellite area to Philadlephia that's large enough to have its own airport and daily newspapers, yet still have a small town feel. The Llantono River would represent the Lehigh River, and the nearby mountains could be the Poconos. The characters from both shows routinely visit New York and Philadelphia, and return home within a few hours, and that would be possible from the Allentown-Bethleham area.
Llanview is the home of Llanview University and Buchanan Enterprises, headed by Asa Buchanan. The local newspaper is The Banner, which is still run by former Llanview mayor, Victoria Lord. Also it is home to "The Sun", which is run by Todd Manning. Also in Llanview is Llanview Hospital, the area's medical center, and a central area called Angel Square, located in East Llanview.
The community's police commissioner is Bo Buchanan; and the district attorney is Nora Hanen. Evangeline Williamson is the assistant district attorney. Llanview resident (& former college student), now Llanview High School teacher Marcie McBain is a best known author and writer of the community.

[edit] Newspaper
For the hardcore punk band, see The Banner (band)
The Banner is the chief newspaper in Llanview. The newspaper was founded and owned by Victor Lord, (originally portrayed by Ernest Graves), then passed on to Joe Riley (Lee Patterson). Subsequently, it was passed on to Clint Buchanan (Clint Ritchie), who owned and editorialized the newspaper. Afterwards, Victoria "Viki" Lord Davidson (Erika Slezak), Victor's daughter, inherited the paper. Todd Manning (Trevor St. John) was previously editor-in-chief until Kevin Riley Buchanan (Dan Gauthier) had him removed from the position, and afterward the paper reverted to Victoria. Todd Manning bought Dorian Cramer Lord's newspaper and turned it into The Sun, for which he was the editor.
